
Nightcrawler
and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Riz Ahmed has joined the next installment
in the Bourne franchise.
The
actor joins Matt Damon, who returns to the titular role, Julia Stiles, Alicia
Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Scott Shepherd, and Ato Essandoh.
Plot
details are top secret at this point, but according to Variety, Ahmed was the
first choice play a tech specialist at the CIA, who they say has a key role to
play in the film. Ahmed almost wasn't cast due to scheduling conflicts with Gareth
Edwards' Rogue One.
After
having directed The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum, Paul Greengrass
is once again at the helm of the franchise. The yet untitled film was
co-written by him and Christopher Rouse, who edited five of Greengrass' top
films including both Bourne sequels, United 93, Green Zone, and Captain Phillips.
Rouse won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Film Editing for The Bourne
Ultimatum.
Currently
filming in Budapest, Bourne 5 will hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
