Keeping
with the recent trend of gender-swapping high-profile franchises, Sandra Bullock
has signed on to play the lead character in Gary Ross' (Pleasantville, The
Hunger Games) upcoming all-female Ocean's Eleven movie.
According
to The Playlist, the new film has been in development for quite some time with
Jerry Weintraub, who produced Steven Soderbergh's trilogy, spearheading the
project and screenwriter Olivia Milch (Little Women) penning the script. Unfortunately,
Weintraub passed away this past summer, but Soderbergh and George Clooney stepped
in to see to the project's completion. Milch has since delivered a draft of the
screenplay.
Last
year's scandalous Sony hacks revealed that former Sony Pictures head, Amy
Pascal, knew of the existence of this project and that was one of the reasons behind
the decision to push for the all-female Ghostbusters project.
It's
unclear what the movie is in relation to the Clooney-led trilogy, but sources
say that the actor may have a cameo as Danny Ocean.
Whether
it is the original movie or Soderbergh's trilogy, the ensemble has always
been the most exciting thing in the franchise in my view, so I'm eager
to see who else is cast to star opposite Bullock.
