Joe Robert Cole (Amber Lake) and Marvel are
closing in on a deal for the writer/director to pen Black Panther for the
studio, starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular superhero, The Wrap reports.
Recent reports suggested that
Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was being courted to direct the
project, but The Wrap claims this is not the case and that Marvel will only
move on a director once the script is finish. This could be Marvel's answer to
their failed negotiations with Selma director Ava DuVernay, who turned down the
project because of creative differences.
In the meantime, Gray and his
representatives have entered negotiations with Universal for the director to
helm Furious 8.
Like Guardians of the Galaxy
scribe Nicole Perlman, Cole has been a part of Marvel's in-house writing team
for a while now, and it is rumored that he has written an Inhumans script for
the studio.
Black Panther comes out on
July 6, 2018.
