Though I enjoyed the subsequently two movies in the
trilogy (let's not talk about the fourth), the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie
was by far the best in the franchise inspired in a theme park ride.
While promoting the upcoming
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Kaya Scodelario revealed that Espen
Sandberg and Joachim Rønning's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men
Tell No Tales will try to bring back the thrill, humor, and larger-than-life
storytelling.
"It [does have] a lot more of the first movie,
that's what they wanted to bring it back to," Scodelario told Digital Spy. "[The
producers] want to take it back to the beginning again. They wanted it to have
this epic journey, and for it to make sense, and for it to tie things up, and
also lead to new storylines."
The actress also offered
some details regarding her character, Carina Smyth, who is "an astronomer,
and she is an academic," Scodelario explained. "She's fighting for
the right to study at university, because women couldn't at that time. So she's
on her own journey - looking for the trident of Poseidon - and she has a diary
with clues, and she encounters Jack Sparrow along the way, and he messes
everything up. As he does. And it's fun!"
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials opens next week on
September 18, while Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17,
2017.
