Showtime
followed the great first season of their supernatural gothic series Penny
Dreadful with an outstanding second season. Now, with a third season in the
pipeline, the network has announced that they will be introducing six new
characters to the Victorian horror show.
First is the
reintroduction of Tony-winning actress Patti LuPone to the show. LuPone
appeared in one episode of the second season as the Cut-Wife, a character that
had a significant impact on Vanessa's season arc, but for the third season, the
actress will play a completely different character, Dr. Seward, an American
therapist who "treats Vanessa with an unusual new approach".
Another
new addition is The Second Best Marigold Hotel's actor Shazad Latif, who will
bring life into Robert Louis Stevenson's grisly literary creation, Dr. Jekyll.
Dexter's
Christian Camargo will play Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who befriends
Vanessa.
Jupiter
Ascending's Sam Barnett will play Dr. Seward's mysterious young secretary.
Wes
Studi from Hells On Wheels will play Kaetenay, an intense and enigmatic Native
American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett), and who also becomes
an ally of Sir. Malcolm (Timothy Dalton).
Last
but not least is Far from the Madding Crowd's actress Jessica Barden as
Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).
Penny
Dreadful returns in 2016.
