After nine years, four
movies, and three video games, Daniel Craig sounds like he is ready to step
down from the Bond franchise he helped reinvigorate with a more down to Earth,
flawed, and not particularly polished version of the iconic character.
At this time, there isn't
a known frontrunner to replace Craig, but The Wire and Luthor star Idris Elba
has been a popular fan choice to play the next 007.
Speaking to The Daily
Mail, author Anthony Horowitz, who just finished writing the new Bond novel,
Trigger Mortis, says that Elba is not right for the role.
"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think
of other black actors who would do it better," Horowitz tells The Daily Mail. "For
me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I
think he is probably a bit too "street" for Bond. Is it a question of
being suave? Yeah."
I hate to state the obvious but I wonder if Mr.
Horowitz has ever consider that Mr. Elba is an actor, and as such he plays the roles
that he gets or are given to him accordingly to what is written on the script
pages.
As for who he thinks could play Bond, Horowitz thinks Hustle,
and Red Ban Society star Adrian Lester would be up for the challenges to play
007.
Luckily, Horowitz works for Ian Fleming's estate,
which controls the rights to the books, and not Eon Production, which controls
the movie side of things.
