Craven will forever be remembered as one of the strongest voices in horror
having started two classic genre franchises with A Nightmare on Elm Street and
Scream. Some of his other films include The Hills Have Eyes, The Last
House on the Left, Vampire in Brooklyn, Swamp Thing, The Serpent and the
Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs, Cursed, Red Eye, and My
Soul to Take.
The director didn't
venture too much outside of genre filmmaking but when he did he did so with
great results. In 1999 he directed the drama Music of the Heart, which was
nominated for two Academy Awards including best actress for Meryl Streep. And
in 2006 he directed a segment of Paris, je t'aime.
Our deepest sympathies
to Mr. Craven's family and friends.
