With
Warner Bros. getting ready to embark on another journey to the world of Harry
Potter with the upcoming prequel franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find
Them, another property has decided to also come back and troll the wizarding,
or better yet the wizardy world of Harry Potter.
The
rights holders to the 80's horror franchise Troll have announced their plans
for an animated feature film and TV series titled Troll: The Rise of Harry
Potter, Jr.
If
by now you're thinking that I'm joking I assure you that I'm not. And if you are
thinking that Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling will go to court over the character's
name, I'm sure they will try, but...
Harry
Potter Sr. and Harry Potter Jr. were both characters that appeared in the 1986
film, years before the British author created the boy who lived.
The press release gives a short synopsis for the
film, which will see "a wicked, magical troll wizard envisages taking over the world.
Only Harry Potter, Jr., with the help of a magical witch, can save the planet
from the clutches of the troll wizard and his evil force."
The writer and director of the first
film, John Carl Buechler will co-produce the 3D animated film, which will count
with the voice of Academy Award winning actress Patricia Arquette as the Witch,
and child actor Baxter Bartlett as Harry Potter, Jr.
"The original Troll film has
achieved cult status, and based upon its success we believed that the timing
was right to produce an updated 3D animated version for a whole new generation
of filmgoers." said Buechler.
"We are already
in pre-production," said co-producer Peter Davy. "We have the
financing in place and a strong international distributor. We are envisioning a
series of animated sequels along with an animated TV series."
Troll: The Rise of Harry
Potter, Jr. is scheduled to be released in early 2017, with the TV series
expected to be come out next year.
