After losing its original
director Tommy Wirkola last September due to unknown reasons, Paramount Pictures
is looking to continue to develop the Hansel and Gretel world established in 2013
with French director Bruno Aveillan, who they hope, will help them bring "a
little more excitement into the franchise."
Despite directing a
short in 2009 titled The Farmer Project, Aveillan seems like an odd choice to
steer the project as he is predominantly known for his commercial work
directing commercials for such brands as Louis Vuitton, Audi, Nike, Lexus,
Nintendo, and Coca-Cola, to name a few.
Before leaving Wirkola
wrote a script for the sequel, but according to the Tracking Board, Paramount
is searching for a new scribe to rewrite the script for Aveillan.
The original movie
grossed over $200 million at the worldwide box-office on a $50 million
production budget.
Gemma Arterton and
Jeremy Renner are expected to reprise their characters from the first movie.
