While we all pray for a good video game to movie adaptation to come our way,
Variety reports that Lionsgate is developing a big screen adaptation of
Borderlands with Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad producing.
Video game adaptations have been for the most part an utter disaster both creatively
and financially, but Lionsgate seems to know what makes the video game
franchise work and don't appear to be afraid to follow it.
"Part
of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source
new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and
television shows," said Lionsgate
Co-Chairmen Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman in a joint statement. "The
‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the
same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster
mega-franchise."
Created
and developed by Gearbox Software and published by Take-Two Interactive
Software’s 2K label, Borderlands is a crazy and fun
Rated-R First Person Shooter that takes place on the fictional planet of
Pandora that houses a powerful alien vault containing untold power. The game
then has you join a ragtag group of fighters united to take down Smilin' Jack
and the Hyperion Corporation.
