It was earlier this
year amid awards season that two of the most talked about actors joined a well-known
property by the name of King Kong. After dazzling audiences with two of last
year's most incredible performances in Birdman and Whiplash, the idea of having
a King Kong blockbuster starring Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons almost seemed
like a dream, unfortunately the dream became a nightmare as both actors have
now departed the project being directed by John Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer).
According to Deadline as a
result of delays Keaton and Simmons left the Kong: Skull Island, which was
originally set to being production in the Fall, but was pushed back to the end
of the year. Scheduling conflicts are common in the business, and with both
actors having other commitments, trying to fit a big summer blockbuster plus
any additional shootings (as is now common in this types of films) proved
unlikely.
Tom Hiddleston is
still attached to the project, though I wonder if with Keaton and Simmons'
departure, he too will leave.
Opening on March 10,
2017, Kong: Skull Island will (hopefully) "fully
immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the iconic ape
as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island."
