If you missed the last couple of minutes of DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu
Panda 2 then spoiler alert because Po's (Jack Black) family is still alive and
kicking, as are a number of other pandas, who somehow managed to survive the
mad peacock's extermination.
"There is great
joy. Lo and behold, there’s a secret panda village. There’s intense
rejoicing as I am reunited with my people. There are even cute baby pandas.
Those guys are going to be the life of the party, for sure," said Jack
Black in an interview to USA Today.
In addition to the returning cast, which includes Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Jackie
Chan as Monkey, Seth Rogen as Mantis, David Cross as
Crane, Lucy Liu as Viper, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu,
and James Hong as Mr. Ping, Kung Fu Panda 3 also stars
Rebel Wilson as Mei Mei, a funny and creative panda "super into ribbon
dancing", and Bryan Cranston as Li, "the master of chilling" and
of having fun.
I've really enjoyed the two previous films, mainly because all the cool and
vibrant action was a result of the underlying emotional drama that the film
dealt with. For instance, the first film talked about betrayal, blinding love, self-discovery,
and acceptance, while the second film tackled themes such as loss, hanger, and
fear. Therefore, for the third film I'm at the very least expecting some
tension between Po and his adoptive and biological fathers Mr. Ping, and Li
to arise.
Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, Kung Fu Panda 3
opens on January 26, 2016.
