Unlike Rick Grimes and friends, who more often than not end up in the woods
while trying to escape a horde of the undead in AMC's The Walking Dead, the
survivors of the upcoming companion series won't have such luck.
"I can say I think we’re not in
the woods at all. Yeah, I am pretty sure we are in zero woods this season," said series creator Robert Kirkman
of Fear The Walking Dead.
One of the things we know for a fact will make the new series stand-out
from the original is the setting. The Walking Dead was predominantly set in
Atlanta, Georgia, and Alexandria, Virginia, which are areas of vast wooded
areas, unlike Fear, which is set in Los Angeles, and something Kirkman seems
keen to explore.
"The
urban sprawl—it covers a tremendous amount of land, and it’s got an extremely
dense population, so there are a lot of things about that that lend itself well
to good storytelling in the zombie apocalypse," Kirkman added.
"But also, this is a city where a vast number of people come to the city
to reinvent themselves, or they’re new to the city for various different
reasons. It’s almost a city of immigrants inside a country of immigrants. So
there’s definitely some aspects of that we’ll also be playing with as well."
Fear
The Walking Dead premieres on August 2015 on AMC.
