Well it was bound to happen eventually. After 15 years, it looks like our
time with Hugh Jackman as the iconic Wolverine is ending. The 46-year-old actor
revealed today via instagram that he will play the character one last time, presumably
in director James Mangold's upcoming The Wolverine sequel.
Jackman's Wolverine is one of the franchise's pillars and the only
character to have gone on to star in two spinoffs, so it will be interesting to
see how his big finale will go down, as well as when, where, and how the
character will eventually re-emerge, and who will be stepping into Jackman's
shoes.
The franchise is heading into new territory with the older cast being
replaced with younger actors, and though it's unlikely that the same would
happen to Wolverine since he was born in 1886 give or take, that idea shouldn't
be dismissed entirely, not because it's good, but because we know these
adaptations don't stick too close to their source materials.
The actor famously played the character seven times in X-Men, X2, X-Men:
The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: Fist Class (cameo), The
Wolverine, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
