The Tale Of Princess
Kaguya director Isao Takahata and producer Yoshiaki Nishimura will both attend
the 87th Academy Awards this coming February 22. The news is that this will
mark the first time a Japanese director nominated for the Best Animated Feature
will attend the award ceremony. Furthermore, Takahata is also one of Studio
Ghibli's co-founders, and will be the first one to, if he wins, to go on stage
to receive the award.
This isn't the first
time a Studio Ghibli co-founder was nominated for an academy award. In 2003
Hayao Miyazaki, who won the award for Spirited Away refused to attend the
ceremony. Miyazaki received at least four invitations to join the Academy ranks
but declined each time.
