Now that the deal
between Sony and Marvel is finally done, the pressure is one to find the next
Spider-Man, but will he be Peter Parker?
"This
is not set in stone guys, but I'm telling you right now: Spider-Man is not
going to be white," said Jeff Sneider from The Wrap in Meet The Movie
Press. "I really feel strongly - Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel
and DC to the punch with sort of a major black comic book movie character. Like
I mentioned last week, the [Sony] e-mails that leaked were perceived to be
racist in some quarters. I really think that is going to play into things."
The
e-mails weren't perceived as being racists, they were racists, but that aside,
there isn't a reason why Spider-Man should be white other than the comic books.
Him being white, black, asian, whatever is not a factor into who he is, or why
he does what he does, like other superheroes, for example Black Panther.
But
is he Peter Parker or Miles Morales? Well I believe he will be Peter Parker
since the only reason Miles Morales is Spider-Man is because Peter died, and
Miles had to step up to protect the city. So unless we start things off with Peter already dead, it will be virtually impossible to introduce Miles.
Jeff
eventually added that reps for white actors going into auditions are telling
him that they think Sony is leaning towards ethnic.
White actors are still going out for Spider-Man but their reps are telling me they think Sony is leaning "ethnic."
