Hit-Girl Prequel & Kick-Ass 3 Being Discussed

British director Matthew Vaughn has an enviable, if yet small body of work has a director. After the underrated Layer Cake, and Stardust, Vaughn entered the zeitgeist with his adaptation of Mark Millar, and John Romita Jr.'s Kick-Ass, which led to X-Men: First Class, and the more recent Kingsman: The Secret Service.

While promoting the latter, Vaughn was asked if there were any plans for a new installment in the Kick-Ass franchise.

"Do you know what's going to be next if I do it... we've finished plotting it. What we have to do is, we've got to do the FIRST CLASS to the KICK-ASS world. We lost a few fans on Kick-Ass 2. It wasn't as loved as one would've hoped. So we have this idea for a Hit Girl prequel. It's a really strong, really simple prequel where I think we can regain the love and the passion. If that happens, I'm pretty sure I can persuade Aaron and Chloe to come back and finish the story of Kick-Ass with Kick-Ass 3".

As the directed stated Kick-Ass 2 not only alienated many fans but also suffered from being one of the most pirated movies of the year it came out. This was reflected on the film's box-office numbers, as it made $60 million on a $28 million production budget, which wouldn't be terrible if not for the fact that the first film grossed over $90 million.

Vaughn also revealed that this isn't a pipedream, as progress on the Hit-Girl prequel is being made.

"Mark and I have already plotted Hit Girl. We have to get the script done next. It's so far out there, you have no idea."

Finally, the director said that like Kick-Ass 2 he won't direct Kick-Ass 3 if it gets greenlit, however he revealed that he spoke with The Raid, and Raid 2 director abut possibly taking the helm.

"No, I wouldn't direct. We spoke about it to Gareth Evans a couple of years ago. I'd get someone like that, a really bold, clever director. Most of it is set in the far east."

Six months or so ago, Chloe Grace Moretz revealed that she was done with Hit-Girl, and with Aaron Taylor-Johnson busy with the Marvel experience it's hard to imagine anyone from the original cast returning.

What do you think?
