Paramount Pictures,
Bad Robot, and Skydance Productions have beamed-up Fast & Furious director
Justin Lin to helm the third entry in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. Lin was attached to
direct the sequel to The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, but the project
got postpone when Universal announced that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass were
going to reunite for yet another Bourne film.
Lin was also offered a chance to direct a multi-part finale in the Fast & Furious franchise, but in light of
the Star Trek gig it unclear if he still wants to pursue that option or not.
Star Trek 3 is
scheduled to open in theaters in 2016 when the franchise celebrates its 50th
anniversary.
