The vulture of
cancellation has been circling over Constantine's head ever since NBC first announced that
they had capped the first season at just 13 episodes.
We've already heard
from one of the show's executive producer, Daniel Cerone who urged fans to
watch and re-watch the series until their tv explodes and show the network that Constantine still has a future. Now speaking to Deadline David S. Goyer (executive producer) says
that the chances of the Master of the Dark Arts being renewed for a second
season are good.
“It’s not dead, at all, it’s
solidly in contention for a second season of NBC, which is still supporting
it. Constantine got caught in the midst of a change that is
happening at the networks. It gets big numbers on DVR and online views, but it
is sort of a tweener that doesn’t fit the traditional viewing box at the big
networks. It’s not State Of Affairs, it’s just not that kind of
show, but NBC likes it. It’s frustrating what happened because creatively we’ve
really started to hit our stride and people are responding to that. If I were a
betting man, I would say there’s an excellent chance for a second season.”
Constantine is in the
"enviable" position of airing on Fridays, however the show's ratings
have been higher than the previous series that occupied that slot, Hannibal.
