Box Office Weekend: 17/19 October - Dracula Loses His Fangs & More

Opening the countdown to this weekend's top ten box-office hits is director Wes Ball's adaptation of James Dashner YA sci-fi novel, The Maze Runner starring Dylan O'Brien, Will Poulter, Ki Hong Lee, Patricia Clarkson, Don McManus, and Kaya Scodelario.

On a production budget of $34 million, Ball's The Maze Runner has managed to gross $236 and change, and already has a sequel in the works. Titled The Scorch Trials, the sequel is set to be released in September 18 of 2015.

Director Antoine Fuqua's film adaptation of the 80's tv series The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington, Chloe Moretz, Bill Pullman, Melissa Leo, and Marton Csokas, takes a tumble, as it was previously in sixth on the countdown.

On a production budget of $55 million, Fuqua's 80's revival lands itself a very profitably return. Is equalizer 2 on the horizon?

The Conjuring spin-off, Annabelle is still scaring audiences worldwide. Directed by John R. Leonetti, Annabelle stars Alfre Woodard, Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola, Kerry O'Malley, Brian Howe, Eric Ladin, and Ivar Brogger.

In terms of shear profits, Annabelle is on par with the greats, as it manages to gross almost $150 million on a production budget of just $6,5.

The courtroom drama, The Judge has failed to impress critics, and it seems that Robert Downey Jr. star power wasn't enough to save what Rolling Stone calls "an overstuffed", and "overlong" film.

Directed by David Dobkin, The Judge also stars Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Billy Bob Thornton, Vincent D'Onofrio, Leighton Meester, Dax Shepard, and Balthazar Getty.

Directed by Gary Shore and starring Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Charles Dance, Charlie Cox, and Samantha Barks, Dracula Untold is Universal's first attempt at their shared Monster cinematic universe.

The film isn't without its problems, but seems to be just hanging there, as it goes from second to sixth place in just two weeks.

In fifth is director Michael Hoffman adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks novel, The Best of Me starring Michelle Monaghan, James Marsden as two former high school sweethearts who meet after 20 years for the funeral of a friend.

The Best of Me also stars Luke Bracey, Clarke Peters, and Caroline Goodall.

The family comedy with the biggest title ever, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day drops to fourth after opening in third.

Directed by Miguel Arteta, the film stars Ed Oxenbould as Alex Cooper a kid that is having the most horrible day ever, but  he soon learns that he's not alone, as his family also starts to have a very horrible day.

The film also stars Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, Dylan Minnette, Kerris Dorsey, and Megan Mullally.
Director Jorge R. Gutierrez animation The Book of Life opens to a modest success. Produced by Guillermo del Toro the film stars Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, and del Toro and Gutierrez themselves.

"The fantasy-adventure, tells the legend of Manolo, a conflicted hero and dreamer who sets off on an epic quest through magical worlds in order to rescue his one true love and defend his village."

David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's New York Times bestseller book, Gone Girl gets dethroned, and drops to second.

The heavy drama stars Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne, the lead suspect of his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) disappearance on their fifth wedding anniversary.

Gone Girl also stars Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Scoot McNairy, Missi Pyle, Casey Wilson, Emily Ratajkowski and Neil Patrick Harris.
Is it too early to start talking about Oscars?
