Director Richard Linklater's Boyhood surprises, not in
quality but in its mass-market appeal, and is currently sitting in tenth. Step
Up All In dances its way down from sixth to ninth. Lucy opens her mind to the possibilities
held in eighth. Helen Mirren's The Hundred Foot Journey culinary drama burns
out and drops from fourth to seventh, as did Into the Storm, which flew from
third to sixth. In fifth is a new opening, The Giver starring Jeff Bridges,
Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, and Taylor
Swift. In fourth is yet another example of why the pen is stronger than the sword,
as The Expendables 3 open to an extremely slow start.
Director/writer Luke
Greenfield buddy cop comedy bursts through the door to win bronze. Starring
Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., and Andy Garcia, Let's Be Cops it's the
ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they're not cops. When two
struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become
neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get
tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their
fake badges on the line.
Weirdly, Marvel's space
adventure directed by James Gunn, and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave
Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper maintains its silver medal…
…but surprisingly, Director Jonathan
Liebesman's reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proves
that there was a craving for a live-action TMNT movie, and it is now raking the
benefits from that, as it holds on to gold.
