MTV Picks Up Shannara Fantasy Series

According to The Wrap, MTV has acquired the rights to adapt author Terry Brooks' Shannara fantasy series. Iron Man's Jon Favreau was initially attached to direct, but now it looks like TMNT director Jonathan Liebesman will direct the first two episodes, of the ten ordered by the network. Favreau is still attached as an executive producer.

The novels are set in a post-apocalyptical world, where magic replaces science, as the "engine" that makes mankind move forward.

OVERVIEW: Living in peaceful Shady Vale, Shea Ohmsford knew little of the troubles that plagued the rest of the world. Then the giant, forbidding Allanon revaled that the supposedly dead Warlock Lord was plotting to destory the world. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness was the Sword of Shannara, which could only be used by a true heir of Shannara--Shea being the last of the bloodline, upon whom all hope rested. Soon a Skull Bearer, dread minion of Evil, flew into the Vale, seeking to destroy Shea. To save the Vale, Shea fled, drawing the Skull Bearer after him....

Shannara is a high fantasy series from acclaimed author Terry Brooks, beginning with The Sword of Shannara in 1977.
