“J.J.
and I are friends, so yeah, possibly,” said Benedict Cumberbatch
when asked by MTV if he and Abrams had talked about him having a role
in the upcoming Star Wars franchise. “I think J.J. Is very good at
creating something original out of something known, and I think apart
from his continuing use of Simon Pegg – and who can blame him,
frankly – it made sense not to do it.”
“...continuing
use of Simon Pegg ...”???
Well,
it was rumored that Simon Pegg, who worked with the director on
Mission: Impossible and in the two new Star Trek movies, was up for a
small role in Episode VII, so is this statement the final nail in
Pegg's rumored role in the new Star Wars?
Last
month the actor was asked if the rumor was true and he denied it,
saying that it wouldn't be appropriate for him to appear in the film
because of Star Trek, and believed Abrams shouldn't do “stunt
casting”.
So
was the actor being misleading, or is Cumberbatch's comments merely
stating that the actor and director have worked in the past?
