While everyone, including myself are running around
with a Godzilla figure in one hand and a lightsaber on the other jumping of joy
at the news, let's not forget that director Gareth Edwards was already attached
to direct a sequel to the critically acclaimed and box office hit Godzilla.
To clarify the situation, so fans won't have a
stroke, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull, updates the news and says:
“Gareth's
filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation's most creative and visionary
directors,” says Tull. “The
plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on
another 'Godzilla,' but who knew it would be a 'Star Wars' installment? We have
a great plan in store for 'Godzilla' fans and I am looking forward to seeing
Gareth’s imprint on the 'Star Wars' universe.”
THR adds that:
WME-repped
Edwards is attached to direct Godzilla 2 and 3, but
while story ideas exist, Godzilla 2 project is still in early development and does not even have
a script.
