The first trailer for Michaël R. Roskam’s crime drama The Drop (formerly titled Animal Rescue) has landed online. Penned by Mystic River and Shutter Island author Dennis Lehane, The Drop follows Tom Hardy, a former criminal that works as a bartender at a bar that is used by local gangsters to “drop” money. The story develops when Hardy's character rescues a pit bull puppy and becomes targeted by the dogs abusive and mentally unstable owner.
The movie counts with a
stellar cast, which includes Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts and
the great late James Gandolfini, who sadly makes with The Drop his last
appearance on film.
The Drop drops (sorry) on September 19th.
The Drop Official Synopsis:
The Drop is a new crime drama from
Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a
screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows
lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of
funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of
Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James
Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and
entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where
friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the
cost.
