Iceland
has become quite the filming location for big budget tentpoles, from
Batman Begins, to Prometheus, to Oblivion, to Thor: The Dark World
and many others, and now it seem that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode
VII will be taking the breathtaking natural landscapes to its use.
According
to the Icelandic site visir.is “the crew will be heading for the
Scandinavian nation this spring ahead of the main production kicking
off in May.” So this could mean one of two things, either they are
going to set up shot earlier to be better prepare or they will go and
capture some footage and perhaps some stills to later add in post. I
hope for the former but since the site also notes that they will be
filming mostly landscapes shots, we can assume that it will be to add
in post or recreate it on set or in CGI (pff!).
Given
the natural Icelandic landscape we can assume or hope that the ice
planet Hoth will be making a comeback but at this time no official
word.
It
was announced that Star Wars: Episode VII will take place 30 years
after the events of Star Wars: Episode V – Return of the Jedi and
and we can assume that the new entry will most likely feature Luke
(Hamill), Leia (Fisher) and Solo (Ford), who will introduce “a trio
of new young leads”.
Adam
Driver was in talks to star as a villain, but everything went quiet
after the initial report, but with a May productoin start we should
be getting casting news soon.
