Yesterday
we reported that actor Philip Seymour Hoffman still had one week left
of shooting in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, but when we
reported the news we didn't knew how important or big the material
was. Today THR is reporting that Hoffman had “one major, emotional
scene left to film”, but Lionsgate executive says “we're going to
have a couple of work-around issues but the movie will be creatively
whole. His performances in both [remaining] movies will be up to the
best of his craft. We feel it will be a good tribute to him.”
The
Lionsgate executive didn't share much about what scenes needed the
“work-around” or what was Hoffman's last scene, explaining “Why
would I want to give people something to look for two years from
now?”
According
to one source, the scene won't be cut but will re-imagined: “They
seem to have plans that don’t seem very complicated,” said the
source. “You can do digital things, you can have conversations
where you’re not focusing on him but the people he’s talking to.”
Despite not having any knowledge from the upcoming sequels, veteran
effects supervisor Rob Legato says it might be possible to digitally
recreate the late actor “for a shot or two”, THR says “some
scenes might need to be rewritten.”
