Gotham Casts The Penguin, Alfred, Gordon’s Fiancée And More

This past weekend Fox announced that actor Ben McKenzie (The O.C. and Southland) was going to lead the upcoming Gotham series as James Gordon, and now the network has announced that four other roles have been filled. So as of now in addition to McKenzie as Gotham’s future Commissioner Gordon we will have Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead) as the iconic villain Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, Sean Pertwee (Camelot) will play Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth, Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) will be Gordon’s boss, Captain Essen and finally Erin Richards (Being Human) will play Gordon’s fiancée Barbara Kean.

We previously reported that actor Donal Logue had been asked to star as Detective Harvey Bullock, a bribe taking and abusive cop who sometimes sabotages Gordon’s work, while other times acts like the “bad cop” who is trusted by Gordon. Logue was not referenced in the announcement, but fingers crossed.

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) wrote the pilot and will executive produce alongside Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita) who will helm the pilot.

The Penguin – With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

Alfred Pennyworth – A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.

Captain Essen – Gordon’s boss at the GCPD Homicide Squad, Captain Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop.

Barbara Kean – A sophisticated emergency room doctor, Barbara is the fiancée of James Gordon, joyful but with an edge of vulnerability. She stands by her future husband…which can be difficult in a world as corrupt as Gotham.
