For those that haven’t seen Thor: The Dark World – Spoiler Alert – since there will be some talking about Thor: The Dark World mid-credit teased about Guardians of the Galaxy.
In the
mid-credit scene in Thor: The Dark World, which was directed by James Gunn as a
connection to the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, The Collector (Benicio Del
Toro) appears to receive The Aether from Sif and Volstagg for safekeeping, “One
down, five to go” says Del Toro. This simple phrase is enough for those that
now the comics to assume that both the Tesseract and The Aether are Infinity Gems,
which fit in Thanos (smiling purple dude in the after credits of The Avengers)
Infinity Gauntlet and give him power. But all the Gems have a name and an
individual power, so what are their names and powers?
"I
don’t know when we’ll actually divulge that necessarily," says Kevin Feige
in an interview to CO, "but it’s the Space stone."
Thanos
Gauntlet uses five different Gems, Space, Soul, Time, Mind, Reality and Power.
We can assume that the Tesseract is the Space stone, since in the Thor movies
and in the Avengers Thor travels from Earth to Asgard thanks to it. The Aether
seems to fit the Reality Gem really well, so that leaves the Soul, Time, Mind
and Power to be discovered.
"Is
that going to be the focus of 'Guardians of the Galaxy'," the site then
asks, "or is going to continue throughout Phase Three? How long is this
story arc going to go?"
"Well
the answer to the first question is both," Feige responds. "It is
both. And then, you know, who knows? If they allow us to keep making movies, it
will go a little bit further."
It’s
possible that the other Infinity Gems are going to pop up in other Marvel movies
until the big showdown between The Avengers and Thanos in The Avengers 3.
