J.J. Abrams Talks Star Wars: Episode VII Release Date And Lawrence Kasdan

Some weeks ago, news broke out of some troubles surrounding the release date of the next installment in the Star Wars franchise. First and this one was that writer Michael Arndt had left his duties and left director J.J. Abrams to work on the script, which might have been too much for the director, so the studio decided to brought in one of the writers of the original trilogy, Lawrence Kasdan to help out. After this troublesome but quite welcoming news, it was reported that producer Kathleen Kennedy was pushing for the film to be released in 2016, but Disney refused the change the already announced 2015 release. Now director J.J. Abrams wraps everything into one and says that in order to meet with the 2015 release date, they had to bring Kasdan to help finish the script.

During a press conference to promote his upcoming sci-fi series, Almost Human, director J.J. Abrams explained why the need to bring Kasdan in.

“Working with Michael was a wonderful experience and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of his or adore him more, He’s a wonderful guy and was incredibly helpful in the process.  And working with Lawrence Kasdan, especially on a Star Wars movie, is unbeatable.  It became clear that given the time frame and given the process and the way the thing was going that working with Larry, in this way, was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be.  That doesn’t preclude working with Michael again in the future, at all.  I couldn’t say enough good things about him.  He’s one of the smartest guys, and one of the best writers around.”
