This year’s The Wolverine finally gave the popular hero, the solo movie he rightfully deserved and it wasn’t to shabby at the box-office, bringing $414 million worldwide, so it isn’t really a surprise that the studio is already negotiating with both Hugh Jackman and the director James Mangold.
Last
week’s post gave in depth details to what’s being negotiated, but now Jackman
talks a little bit.
While
speaking with EW, Jackman “neither confirmed nor denied” that there is a The
Wolverine sequel being planned or that he is on it, but he did tease a little.
“I
was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night. There are some really cool ideas
that I’m dying to tell you, but that would be giving away a secret that is not
even [fully] formed yet.”
After
his appearance in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman contract
with Fox ends, but the actor reminded that since X2, he has been working on a
movie by movie bases. But the actor does seem keen on playing the character
again, and with the same team.
“I
do want to do it with Jim and with [producer] Lauren Shuler-Donner because we
had such a great experience. I’m really proud of The Wolverine.”
One
thing Jackman learned from the first attempt at doing a solo Wolverine is that half-baked
ideas don’t work.
“I
don’t want to dive into another one until we have a compelling reason to do
another one. I love the character, he’s kind of like a best friend to me, and I
don’t ever want to take [him] or the fans for granted. … I think we’ve got a
great opportunity to make something really cool, but it has to be great. That’s
what we’re all working toward.”
