Robert
Kirkman’s The Walking Dead franchise, composed of comic series, tv series and
video games have taken in the last years the World by storm and with numbers on
an all-time high it’s no wonder that the rights for the adaptation of his next
comic book would be snatched before it even came out.
After
Zombies the writer is now taking on demonic possessions with Outcast, which
tells the story of Kyle Barnes, a man who has been plagued by demonic
possession since childhood and who sets out in an journey to find answers even
if it leads to an apocalypse.the comic will be illustrated by Paul Azaceta and
will be published by the Image Comics imprint Skybound in 2014.
The TV
pilot is currently being written by Kirkman and will be produced by FIC (Fox
International Channels) for the cable network Cinemax. Neither Kirkman nor FIC
executive Sharon Tal Yguado are pretending that they are not trying to replicate
the success of The Walking Dead, since they are quoting saying:
“Outcast
is unlike anything on television and has the potential to become another global
phenomenon,” - Yguado
and,
“Despite
the success of ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Outcast’ is only my second foray into the
horror genre. I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and
demonic possession is way scarier than zombies–so this is going to be fun.” –
Kirkman
While
this type of announcements are a bit concerning, since it seems that they are
just trying to copy the formula of The Walking Dead and adapted it, changing
just the setting or premise I’m can’t wait to try and give it a go.
