Angela Lansbury Says Murder, She Wrote Reboot is a Mistake

Back in October it was announced the iconic series Murder, She Wrote would be having a reboot made with Academy Award Winning actress Octavia Spencer to play the lead role. The new series won’t have much to do with the original show, since Spencer will play a hospital administrator and amateur private eye who self-publishes her mysteries books.

The fact that this new series doesn’t seem to be in any shape and size related to the original show, but is still being treated as a reboot, actress Angela Lansbury, who played the English teacher turned mystery writer who would solve crimes, went on record in an interview to the Associated Press and said:

“I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person … So I’m sorry that they have to use the title Murder, She Wrote, even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”

Despite her not so supportive feelings towards the new show, Lansbury has no ill will about Spencer taking on the character.

“I saw her in The Help and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress. So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn’t in Murder, She Wrote.”

Over last year’s there has been an attempt from networks to re-launch or remake some of their more popular series, which sometimes works, but most times it doesn’t, for instance Hawaii Five-0 is doing well but the attempt to bring Ironside and The Munsters failed catastrophically, meaning that the network despite knowing that this new series doesn’t really have nothing to do with the original show they are still branding it Murder, She Wrote so it is more recognizable.
