After
being a box-office success story, many thought that a Pacific Rim sequel would
be just around the corner, with the plot being leaked or concept art being
revealed, apparently not. The last we heard from a possible sequel everything
seemed alright from the studio standpoint, but because del Toro had already
some other projects lined up things got put on hold.
Now things
seem to be on the right track again. In an interview to IGN, del Toro revealed
that he and Travis Beacham are currently writing the script for Pacific Rim 2.
“We
are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active.
The decision to greenlight or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate.”
If the
stars were to align, a Pacific Rim sequel should come out in 2016 but, del Toro
will be shooting Crimson Peek in February of 2014 and there is the matter of
what studio owns Pacific Rim, since both studios responsible for it, Legendary
Pictures and Warner Bros. have since separated, so… ?
