Is Chewie Back?

With production almost set to begin in the next installment of the Star Wars franchise, the rumor mill is spinning ever so fast. We already heard names like Benedict Cumberbatch, Alex Pettyfer, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Liam McIntyre, Ksenia Solo, Saoirse Ronan, and more recently David Oyelowo and Michael B. Jordan for roles ranging from Luke’s son to a new Sith, and now there is a new possible cast that is making its way around the web, Chewbacca.

At the casting service Spotlight, there was a call put out by “Walt Disney Pictures/LucasFilm/Bad Robot” for an “Untitled Studio Feature”, and they are/were looking for a:

"Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too 'thick set' especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus"

So it’s Chewie. Yeah!!!

By now you might be thinking, “A new actor, why?”. Well the actor that originally played Chewbacca in the first and second trilogies, Peter Mayhew, now 69 years old and who stands at 7’3” tall, just went through a surgery to replace both his knees, in the hopes that we would walk again. For the past two years the actor was confined to a wheelchair, but unfortunately even with the surgery, he isn’t in any condition to reprise his role as the much beloved Chewie.
This casting call is either for a new actor to play the famous character or to play an entire new Wookie.

Regarding the biggest casting rumor so far, when asked about the Cumberbatch rumors by LA Times staff writer Yvonne Villarreal, director J.J. Abrams remained as elçusive as ever:

"We're working our asses off trying to get things in place w/ casting." Benedict Cumberbatch? "I love that guy."

Continuing with the casting rumors, it has already been unofficially established that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be returning to their respective roles, with the latter two starting to get into physical shape, which was confirmed by Hamill’s friend actor Robert Englund.
