After
her disappearing-hair magic trick at the Guardians of the Galaxy
panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, James Gunn the director, received
hate mail because of his decision to make the actress shave her head
instead of making her wear a bald cap.

continued.
"It
was explained that whoever played Nebula would have to shave her
head. So Karen knew about this when she auditioned. A bald cap looks
fake when seen repeatedly up close & during long action
sequences."
On
a different note, Gillan in an interview to AMC Movie Talk spoke about her character,
Nebula.
"Nebula
is the villain of the film. She's an employee of Thanos and she has a
very interesting and complex relationship to the lead female of the
film, Gamora."
