Godzilla Comic-Con Panel Recap In 7 Steps

At Godzilla’s panel were the director, Gareth Edwards and actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston.
  • The panel begun with footage of an atomic bomb dropping and some footage shown at last year Comic-Con.
  • After this explosive start, Edwards begun by saying that he knows that everybody sucks up to the studios on these panels, but he would like to say that both Thomas Tull and Warner Bros. were great, by giving him lots of creative freedom, to which Cranston said “so you’re really no better than any other suck up”.
  • Then came the time for the three actors to talk a little bit more about the film. First up was actress Elizabeth Olsen who said that the set didn’t felt like it was massive production at all, more like an independent film; “We were on set all the time just going at it, so it felt like an independent, smaller production.” The actress also revealed that she plays a nurse and mother in the film.
  • Following up on what Olsen said, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson said that Edwards brought an intimacy to the project, which he really liked.
  • Then came time for Breaking Bad star, Bryan Cranston to answer the question of what Kaiju films he watched growing up. Cranston immediately replied “You ask that because I’m the old guy?”, Cranston then continued that he actually liked Godzilla, because he “wanted to see destruction”.
  • Edwards then told a story of when he first arrived in Canada he had to tell the immigration officer that he was there to shoot Nautilus (code name for Godzilla), but after filing up the paperwork, the officer looked at Edwards and asked him, if he was directing Godzilla, to which Edwards said yes, then the officer said “Don’t fuck up man”.
  • After some laughs Edwards told the audience that it they worked closely with Toho, so this Godzilla would feel like it was part of the Toho legacy.
