David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Seas And The Girl Who Played With Fire Are Dead

After a lot of trouble trying to get the adaptation of Jules Verne classic sci-fi novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea up and running, it is now reported that the film is pretty much dead. The film major issues were the non-existing cast, Brad Pitt jumped ship, Matt Damon and Daniel Craig didn’t want to spend that much time away from their families, Channing Tatum isn’t a proper lead actor yet and Chris Hemsworth wasn’t found deemed by Fincher. The second biggie was that Disney, who owns the property hadn’t greenlighted the script, so everything was on standby until 2014, but things seemed to be back on track after a statement made by the Australian Government, where they said that they would give a massive tax incentive if the film was shot there. Well according to The Playlist the film has been dead for months and the statement made by the Australian Government was “apparently a desperate bid” “to entice the filmmakers and producers into continuing with this project that would bring millions of dollars in jobs to their movie industry.”
Besides, Disney’s recent endeavors in remaking their older titles were … well a flop look at John Carter from Mars and The Lone Ranger.

But David Fincher’s bad fortune doesn’t end here.  It has been reported that he’s no longer the director for second installment of the Millennium Trilogy written by Stieg Larsson. The Girl Who Played With Fire, seems to be on the same path as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea because of money, schedules and some sort of poor judgment.

Money was an issue because Sony wanted to cut on the expenses, but with Daniel Craig salary booming after Skyfall the film stalled.

The schedules are turning into an issue because both Craig and Fincher are busy. Fincher with his next film Gone Girl and Craig is doing a play on Broadway, from October until January, and let’s not forget that he is also going to be shooting Bond sometime next year.

And to top all of these “inconveniences”, Sony wasn’t all that pleased with director David Fincher choosing to do Gone Girl first and The Girl Who Played With Fire second.

So what does all of this means? Well, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is dead and The Girl Who Played With Fire seems to be dead too.

Personally I found that the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was literally a rip-off the original and there for the original was better.
