New D&D Film (OMG)

Although the current trend is mega sci-fi films and comic books adaptations, Warner Bros. has set its eyes on rebooting or remaking Dungeons & Dragons. That’s right the fantasy role playing game of Dungeons & Dragons is going to get not a movie, but Warner Bros. is thinking about making a franchise.

Now you may be thinking, didn’t they already made Dungeons & Dragons and it sucked?, well if you are thinking that, then you are correct, they did and it did. The 2000 film adaptation of the popular game was a disaster, it add or lack it all. The story was extremely bad, the best dialogues were when no one spoke, the cgi and practical effects were poorly made and although they add some good or at least entertaining actors in the film like Thora Birch, Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans the best acting was when no actors were in front of the camera. Apparently the film is already far into development, because they are working on a existing script, let’s hope they learned something from their mistake and improve significantly next time around.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is eager to re-start the D&D film with a reworked script by Wrath of
the Titans’ (Oh My God) David Leslie Johnson. Apparently Johnson already had a script for a movie based on an early version of D&D, called Chainmail. This script is currently being beefed up in order to fit a much larger world.

Producing the movie will be Roy Lee (The Lego Movie), Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman, both of them were producers and co-producers respectively of the 2000 flop.

On a personal note I’m not sure that bringing both Solomon and Zeman into the project is such a good idea, I mean didn’t they at some point during the hideous D&D from 2000, step back and look at it? Well it’s probably a case of if at first you don’t succeed sickness. Something’s are better left alone.
