Will Smith has
entered negotiations to join Disney's forthcoming live-action Aladdin movie.
The two-time Oscar nominated actor is said to be in early talks to play Genie
in the film, which is set to be directed by Guy Ritchie.
The character was famously
played by the late Robin Williams in the 1992 Disney animated classic.
Like the recent
Beauty and the Beast, which has grossed over $1B worldwide, Aladdin will be a
live-action musical, which in should fit well with Smith, who over the years
has managed to find a balance between his acting and musical career.
Aladdin isn't the
first Disney project actor's name has been attached to. Smith was previously in
talks to join Tim Burton's upcoming live-action take on Dumbo.
Production is
expected to start in the United Kingdom in July for a long six-month shoot, and
wrap sometime early next year.
Big Fish writer John
August wrote the script based on the 1992 film, which follows the story of
Aladdin, who discovers a magic lamp, and upon shinning it up, a bigger-than-life
genie is released to grant him three wishes.
