Mississippi Grind
filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are set to direct Brie Larson in Captain
Marvel for Marvel Studios.
Written by Guardians
of the Galaxy Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve's, Captain Marvel
will be Marvel's first movie centered on a female protagonist.
Other contenders for
the position included such filmmakers as Leslie Linka Glatter ("Homeland"),
Lorena Scafaria ("New Girl"), Niki Caro ("Whale Rider"), Jennifer
Yuh ("Kung Fu Panda 2"), Jennifer Kent ("The Babadook"), Sam
Taylor-Johnson ("Fifth Shades of Grey"), and Lucia Aniello ("Rough
Night").
Boden and Fleck's
other credits include the television series The Big C, Billions, and The
Affair, as well as Half Nelson, the 2006 drama starring Ryan Gosling, which Boden
co-wrote with Fleck who in turn direct it.
Captain Marvel opens
in theaters on March 8, 2019.
