With Beauty and the
Beast safely across the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, Disney is
ready to date yet another one of their live-action remakes based on one of
their classic animations.
Not too long ago, the
House of Mouse announced they were moving full steam ahead on a live-action The
Lion King film with The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau at the helm.
Today on Twitter the
filmmaker revealed that his version of Hakuna Matata will hit theaters on July
19, 2019.
Casting is underway
with James Earl Jones set to reprise his role as Mufasa, and Donald Glover
onboard to voice Simba. Furthermore, according to several reports, both Disney
and Favreau are pursuing Beyonce to sign onto the project and voice Nala.
When it comes to the
animals, Favreau is expected to use the same technology and impressive level of
detail he employed in The Jungle Book, which won the Oscar for Best Achievement
in Visual Effects.
Catch Me If You Can,
and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales writer Jeff Nathanson is
currently penning the script for the film.
