Scottish thespian Ewan McGregor has
entered negotiations to star in Disney's upcoming live-action Winnie the Pooh spinoff
feature film Christopher Robin to be directed by World War Z, and Quantum of
Solace filmmaker Marc Forster.
McGregor is set to play an adult Christopher
Robin, who has lost his sense of imagination and is a businessman solely
focused on work and success.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Allison
Schroeder ("Hidden Figures") has been brought in to take a new pass
on the screenplay originally written by Ross Perry.
Based on a character by author A.A.
Milne, Christopher Robin was inspired by and named after Milne's son, Christopher
Robin Milne. The author wrote about the character in the books Winnie-the-Pooh from
1926, The House at Pooh Corner from 1928, as well as other poems.
Disney has adapted Milne's stories
into several animated projects including the 1988 series The New Adventures of
Winnie the Pooh, and more recently in the 2011 animated film Winnie the Pooh.
McGregor was recently seen in
Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, and in Danny Boyle's T2
Trainspotting. The actor also stars in the third season of FX's hit series
Fargo.
