Warner Bros. has tapped David
S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes to pen the script for the upcoming Green Lantern
reboot, Green Lantern Corps.
Unlike the ill-fated 2011
movie starring Ryan Reynolds, which only followed the adventures of one Green
Lantern, the reboot will focus on two popular comic book Green Lanterns, Hal
Jordan and John Stewart.
Unlike Rhodes, who does not
have much credits to his name, Goyer has been a part of the DC Extended
Universe since its inception. His writing credits include Man of Steel, and
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which he wrote after having worked on
Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
In the comics, Jordan was a
test pilot who came to be a hero after inheriting the ring from a dying alien Green
Lantern called Abin Sur. As for Stewart, the former U.S. Marine sniper was
selected by the Guardians of the Universe to become a Lantern as a replacement
to an injured Guy Gardner. Stewart is one of DC's earliest African-American superheroes,
and as such, he has tackled racism head on since his creation.
Green Lantern Corps. doesn't
have a release date yet, but with Ben Affleck wavering about when he will
actually start filming his Batman film, and The Flash losing its director,
maybe Warner is trying to get the Green Lantern reboot off the ground as
quickly as possible.
