After a couple of
false starts, including the departure of Brian Fuller ("Hannibal"
creator) from showrunner over scheduling conflicts, Star Trek: Discovery is
back on track with the casting of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle
Yeoh.
Speaking to
ComingSoon, Discovery writer Nicholas Meyer revealed that Yeoh had joined the
cast, but refused to say what character the international star will be playing.
Speculating for a
bit, Yeoh seems a like fit for the lead character in the new series, who was previously
referred to as Number One, a female, human Starfleet officer (non-captain).
Fuller and Alex
Kurtzman co-wrote the first hour of the show, while Meyer, who has deep ties to
the franchise having written Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and The
Undiscovered Country, penned the second hour.
With more casting
announcements hopefully coming soon, Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS All
Access on May of 2017.
