If Jurassic World was
a big budget and characterless reflection on the inherent problems of capitalist
society, i.e. always on the chase of the next big thing, then its sequel will
take a detour to tackle other equally "complex" concepts revealed Jurassic
World filmmaker Colin Trevorrow while at the Stiges Film Festival in Spain.
"The dinosaurs
will be a parable of the treatment animals receive today: the abuse, medical
experimentation, pets, having wild animals in zoos like prisons, the use the
military has made of them, animals as weapons," the filmmaker told Spanish
newspaper El Mundo.
Trevorrow,
who is producing the sequel, also added that in order for the franchise to grow
in new directions a new voice is needed.
"The second part
will be a very different movie that will explore new paths. For that
reason, it was clear that it needed to be [J.A.] Bayona who would direct it, in
order to have it grow and evolve with his very personal vision."
Starring Chris Pratt,
and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World 2 opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
