Academy Award winning actor Colin Firth has entered
negotiations to join Emily Blunt in Disney's upcoming Mary Poppins Returns.
Set 25 years after the original story, the sequel will
see the magical nanny reuniting with the all grown up Jane and Michael Banks.
Should he sign on to the project, Firth will play the
president of the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, William Weatherall Wilkins.
Rob Marshall ("Into the Woods") will direct
the film from a script by Academy Award nominee David Magee ("Life of Pi")
based on P.L. Travers' The Mary Poppins Stories.
Opening in theaters on December 25, 2018, Mary Poppins
Returns also stars Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as Michael and Jane, Lin-Manuel
Miranda as a street lamplighter named Jack, and Meryl Streep as Poppins'
cousin.
