Two-time Academy
Award nominated actress Viola Davis has joined Steve McQueen's upcoming heist
thriller Widows for New Regency.
Based on the 1983 British miniseries of the same name,
the series follows three women (widows) who with the help of a fourth woman,
attempt to execute the heist their husbands died while trying.
Gillian Flynn, the original author and screenwriter of
David Fincher's Gone Girl, is set to write the screenplay alongside McQueen.
Widows marks McQueen's first feature film since 12
Years a Slave.
Jennifer Lawrence was
rumored to have been approach to join the film, but her busy scheduled
apparently forced her to pass.
