Ed Skrein
("Deadpool") is joining the upcoming adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's popular Japanese manga series
Alita: Battle Angel, which James Cameron will produce under his
Lightstorm Entertainment banner with partner Jon Landau.
Robert Rodriguez's is
directing the project, which takes place in the 26th century and sees
the people and cyborgs of the Scrapyard living
beneath the floating and ruling city of Tiphares, whose trash pours down below.
One day Doctor Dyson Ido, a former Tipharean citizen and doctor specializing in
cyborg repairs, finds the intact head of young cyborg-girl in a huge pile of
scrap. He takes her in, fixes her, and gives her a name, Alita. Still amnesiac,
but with knowledge of long forgotten fighting techniques, Alita decides to
become a bounty collector.
Skrein will

Damascus blade.
The actor
joins The Scorch Trials actress Rosa Salazar as the titular character Alita, Christoph
Waltz as Dr. Ido, and Jackie Earle Haley.
Production
is expected to start in the fall for a July 2018 release.
