Despite
the animated version currently in development and set to be released
sometime this year, Warner Bros. have set their eyes on Edge of
Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman to helm the long
in development Justice League Dark film.
According
to THR, Liman has been tapped to direct the project, which will focus on
some of DC's more supernatural heroes like John Constantine, Swam
Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon, and while it will
still be part of the studio's DC Extended Universe, the film will
inhabit something called the Dark Universe as a way to avoid
confusing the audience.
Liman's
recruitment for Justice League Dark means he will no longer be able
to direct the X-Men spinoff Gambit for 20th Century Fox with Channing
Tatum attached to star. The project, missed its start date and was
pushed back while Josh Zetumer (“RobotCop”) works on the script.
The
Justice League Dark feature film was initially developed by Guillermo
del Toro, who both wrote the project and was set to direct it. Despite having dropped out of the project to pursue other professional objectives, the
visionairy filmmaker remains attached as a producer. It's unclear what, if any, of del Toro's
script Liman and writer Michael Gilio will use.
